Tackling the Old Tar and Gravel Roof

Removing the old tar and gravel roofing was no small task. Our team carefully removed all the layers down to the roof deck. Tar and gravel systems are challenging to remove, which meant this job took a bit longer than usual—about 3 to 4 days. But we believe that taking the time to do things right is always worth it.

The Benefits of Upgrading to PVC Roofing

After the old roof was removed, we installed a 1-inch layer of insulation for better energy efficiency and then laid down a 60-mil PVC membrane. This durable roofing material is resistant to harsh weather and is designed to last for decades. It’s an excellent choice for homeowners who want a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution.

Enhancing the Roof with Skylights and a Sleek Finish

As part of this project, we also installed three brand-new skylights—two on the upper section and one on the lower section of the roof.

These skylights bring in more natural light, making the home feel brighter and more inviting. Additionally, we covered the front parapet wall with the PVC membrane for a seamless, waterproof finish. Every seam was heat-welded, and we used prefabricated flashing on all four corners and around the skylights to ensure total water resistance.

Efficient Waste Management on Site

Working in downtown Boston presents unique challenges, especially regarding waste disposal. We used a mobile trailer for debris removal to keep things efficient and minimize disruption. This allowed us to clean up on demand without cluttering the area, ensuring the project remained smooth and hassle-free.
